Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was sent back from Gabon to Arsenal for a medical examination after being diagnosed with a heart lesion.
The forward tested positive for coronavirus on his arrival in Cameroon for the tournament, but he returned a negative test last week before training on Thursday and was one of three players to subsequently be diagnosed with the medical issue.
Aubameyang did not feature in either of Gabon’s first two group games at this year’s AFCON.
Arsenal last week said they had been in touch with Aubameyang and are confident his condition is not serious.
Gabon will be without Aubameyang in the final group game against Morocco on Tuesday.
Aubameyang, along with team-mates Mario Lemina and Axel Meye, were shown to have “cardiac lesions” following bouts of Covid-19.
Arsenal is still waiting for confirmation from the Gabon Football Association.
Aubameyang is closely associated with a transfer from Arsenal after being disciplined and stripped of the club’s captain in December.
The last time Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played for the Gunners was their match against Everton on December 6, which ended 2-1 in favor of Everton.
Aubameyang and Lemina weren’t the only players who had to miss a recent match over the fear of heart disease.
FC Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies was excluded from the squad due to myocarditis, having similarly contracted Covid-19.
