President Muhammadu Buhari has lifted the ban on Twitter activities in Nigeria, with effect from 12 a.m. on January 13, 2022.

Kashifu Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, made the announcement in a press statement on Wednesday.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria orders me to tell the public that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria, effective from 12 a.m. tonight, January 13, 2022,” the announcement stated in part.

“The approval came when the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami, wrote a memo to the President.”
